Lhasa recorded steady economic growth in the first half of 2026, with its GDP reaching 58.86 billion yuan ($8.7 billion), up 6.1 percent year-on-year.

In the first half, the value added of the primary industry was 861 million yuan, the value added of the secondary industry increased 11.0 percent to 26.85 billion yuan, while that of the tertiary industry grew 2.9 percent to 31.15 billion yuan.

The value-added output of industrial enterprises above the designated size — those with annual main business revenue of at least 20 million yuan — increased by 31.1 percent year-on-year in the first half. The growth rate was 0.8 percentage points higher than that in the first five months and 13.5 percentage points higher than the same period last year.

From January to June, retail sales of consumer goods totaled 23.85 billion yuan, up 3.0 percent year-on-year and 1.3 percentage points above the national average.
