Located in the center of Lhasa city, Jokhang Temple is a Buddhist temple. It was originally built in 647 AD.

Jokhang Temple has architectural features originating with its Tibetan, Chinese Tang Dynasty, Nepalese, and Indian architects and craftsmen.

The main hall of the temple has twenty large wooden pillars. Its golden roofs are superbly crafted with many birds, beasts, and other intricate figures.

In the center of the hall is Sakyamuni's gold-plated Buddha statue. On both sides of the hall are statues of Songtsan Gampo and Princess Wencheng and Princess Bhrikuti of Nepal. There are also a large number of historical relics preserved in the temple since the Tang Dynasty.

In 1961, the temple was among the first to be included in a national list of key cultural relic conservation units announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China. On November 30, 2000, it was included in the World Cultural Heritage Potala Palace expansion project.
