Xizang hosts international water sports competition for the first time

Picturesque Konpo Gyada county of Nyingchi city, the Xizang autonomous region, hosted multiple rafting competitions over the weekend.

This event was the first time Xizang had hosted an international water sports competition. It signifies a milestone for sports events in the Himalayas and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau region.

The event was organized by the National Aquatics Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Xizang Sports Bureau, the People's Government of Nyingchi City, and several other official institutes in Nyingchi.

The event drew 128 participants from over 30 domestic and international teams and took place within the Drasumtso National Forest Park.

Among the competitions were the two-person 200-meter rafting sprint, the four-person 8-kilometer rafting rally, and the four-person 3-kilometer rafting buoy race. The Chengdu Jiasite Fitness Team emerged victorious, securing all three championships.

To ensure the high standard and quality of the open competition, the organizing committee conducted river channel rectification and dock construction for the main competition sections.

They integrated the unique cultural landscape resources of the snow-capped mountains, azaleas, peach blossoms, ancient bridges and ancient villages with the waters of Drasumtso Lake and the Brak River, creating a visual spectacle as athletes showed off their skills.
