Becoming a skilled worker with a top-tier reputation is often an arduous but rewarding process. Tenzing Dhondup not only garnered a good reputation but has grown from a front-line employee to the deputy general manager in charge of production, over the last 22 years.

Dhondup has won the title of "Model Worker of Tibet Autonomous Region" and been awarded the "National May 1st Labor Medal". Recently, he was elected as a delegate of the Tibet autonomous region to attend the ongoing 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Dhondup was only 18 years old when he started working at the Shigatse branch of Gaozheng Building Materials Co., Ltd. in 2000, after graduating from Tibet Business School. In 2004, he was selected to work on the newly built NSP cement production line of the company, the first of its kind in Tibet.

Since then, Dhondup worked in the central control room for nearly 8 years, and was promoted to the deputy director of the manufacturing workshop in 2012 due to his outstanding performance at work. In order to standardize the management system of the workshop and better connect the various systems of the production line, he started a reform.

As the reform was advanced, the management of the workshop became more specific and the productivity and efficiency was improved as well. In 2015, for instance, the operation rate of the company's mill single system hit the historic record of 100 percent, saving about 1 million yuan ($2million) in equipment maintenance costs for the company.

In June 2020, under the premise of ensuring the equipment operation rate of 98 percent, nearly 400,000 tons of cement was produced that month, which set another record of cement production since the establishment of the company. Dunzhu also optimized the average operation time of three cement mills, which saw 5.37 million tons of cement produced and more than 7 million yuan saved in electricity bills in 2020, both seen as unprecedented achievements.

"The reason I can persist and make continuous progress is because of inheritance and even more so because of gratitude," Dhondup said.
