In her 29 years of practicing medicine, Penpa Drolma has welcomed countless new lives and witnessed the continuous improvement of the health of women and children in Tibet autonomous region.

Drolma loves obstetrics and gynecology, and is committed herself to the healthcare progress of women and children in Tibet.

Serving as the vice-president of Lhasa People's Hospital, Drolma is also a chief physician of the obstetrics and gynecology department. She has performed or participated in nearly 10,000 operations over the past three decades.

Yungchen Lhamo encountered oligohydramnios when she gave birth to the first child. Under the care and professional treatment of Dolma, her child was safely born. She now came back to Dolma for a prenatal check-up for her second child.

Bai Xi, a 49-year-old patient from Bomi county, Nyingchi city, who suffers from ovarian cancer, is getting better with treatment of Drolma and her team.

This is how Drolma is spending her days at work, often working overtime and staying up late at night.

Drolma has witnessed the transformation of the Lhasa People's Hospital from a second-level hospital to a top-level hospital, and the obstetrics and gynecology department has also grown over the past three decades. In 2019, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Lhasa People's Hospital became the only midwifery training base in the autonomous region.

She has been granted the Special Government Allowance by the State Council and named one of the Most Outstanding Anti-Epidemic Medical Workers of Maternal and Child Healthcare in China. She was also selected as a candidate for the National Talents Cultivation Project.

All these achievements would be impossible without the support of her family. After graduating from Capital Medical University this year, Drolma’s son was admitted for postgraduate study at Tianjin Medical University. Her greatest hope is that her son can also become an excellent doctor.

Recently, Drolma was elected a delegate to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and she will surely perform her duty well at the congress.
