Xizang's Dingri county has revived its tourism industry following a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that temporarily disrupted travel along the 318 National Highway. Thanks to swift reconstruction efforts, affected sites have reopened, drawing a surge of visitors.
Located at the 5,000-kilometer marker of the 318 National Highway, Qianggong village in Lhaze county is a key rest stop for travelers heading to Qomolangma Base Camp. Known as the "3185 Tourism Service Zone", the area has regained popularity, with tourists flocking to the 5,000-kilometer monument for photos.
A local business owner noted that the earthquake and winter slowdown had led to a partial shutdown. However, with community and government support, business has rapidly improved, and daily visitor numbers are steadily increasing.
At Qomolangma Base Camp, the tented accommodations have undergone major upgrades. The new camp features 60 tents, now equipped with running water, stable electricity, and oxygen supply. Enhanced insulated interiors and multiple room options cater to diverse visitor needs.
According to an official, the upgraded site has hosted about 100 tourists per day since reopening on June 1.
