Xizang autonomous region now provides clean energy heating for all farmers and herders living above 5,000 meters elevation, benefiting over 1,500 households.
The milestone follows the successful launch of the region's first clean-energy heating pilot projects.
By leveraging its natural advantages and establishing a sustainable financing system, the regional department of housing and urban-rural development has introduced seven franchise-based projects, attracting nearly 3.8 billion yuan ($533 million) in social capital. The projects have built or upgraded over 6 million square meters of heating facilities, benefiting about 200,000 residents.
Innovative technologies that integrate solar photovoltaic power, battery storage, and heating terminals — as well as systems combining solar thermal energy, heat storage, and dual-supply functions — ensure reliable and affordable warmth and hot water for plateau residents.
