Four Tibetan athletes and one coach to compete at Milan Winter Olympics

Four athletes and one coach from the Xizang autonomous region will represent China at the upcoming 2026 Milan Winter Olympics, the regional sports authority announced on Jan 27.

A total of eight individuals from Xizang were selected for China's national winter sports training squads, including two athletes in cross-country skiing, one in snowboarding, four in ski mountaineering, and one coach. They have competed in a series of major international events, such as Olympic ranking competitions, qualification events and pre-Olympic trials for the Games.

Following comprehensive evaluation through these international competitions, the Xizang skiing team earned five places on China's final Olympic roster, including four athletes and one coach, reflecting strong performance and steady progress.

Among the selected athletes, Yangjin Lhamo will compete in the snowboard cross event. Cidan Yuzhen is set to take part in the women's short-distance and mixed relay events in ski mountaineering. Kelsang Chodron has been named as a reserve athlete for cross-country skiing, while Sonam Chodron will serve as a reserve in ski mountaineering.
