Xizang autonomous region has set a target to achieve 60 million kilowatts of installed clean energy capacity by the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–30), according to the region's recently unveiled economic and social development plan.

A key highlight of the plan is the establishment of a modernized industrial system, which focuses on the four pillar industries, including plateau agriculture, clean energy, strategic resources, and cultural tourism, and four foundational industries such as construction, highland light industry, Tibetan medicine, and border trade logistics.

Emerging sectors, such as the digital economy, low-altitude economy, energy storage, geothermal energy, and green hydrogen, are also emphasized as important parts of the system.

Xizang's installed clean energy capacity currently accounts for 97 percent of its total installed power capacity, with nearly 100 percent of the region's electricity from renewable sources.

Advanced transmission technology enables green electricity to travel 1,900 kilometers to Central China's Hubei province in just six milliseconds. Major projects are also advancing in areas like the upper reaches of the Jinsha and Lancang rivers.

Efforts are underway to integrate clean energy with mining, transportation, and other industries. By 2030, Xizang aims to establish a new energy system as a model for high-altitude regions, supporting China's "West-to-East Power Transmission" strategy.
