Xizang autonomous region's ecological environment remained in good condition throughout 2025, according to the 2025 Xizang Autonomous Region Ecological Environment Bulletin, released on June 2.
The report highlighted that 99.8 percent of days in 2025 had excellent ambient air quality, and 100 percent of major rivers and lakes in the region met or exceeded the national class III grade for water quality, with the compliance rate for drinking water sources also reaching 100 percent.

The bulletin detailed that air quality across all seven prefecture-level cities in Xizang met the national secondary standard, maintaining an overall excellent status. Major rivers, including the Jinsha, Lancang, Yarlung Zangbo, and Nujiang, achieved class II water quality standards, while rivers flowing through key towns, such as Lhasa, Nianchu, and Niyang, met or exceeded class III standards.
Xizang has consistently conducted ecological monitoring, focusing on major river basins including the Yarlung Zangbo, Yangtze (Xizang section), Nujiang, and Lancang. This monitoring includes assessments of algae, phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthic animals, and fish, revealing that the aquatic ecosystem remains in a stable, pristine state. Groundwater quality also remained stable.
